(*) A district entirely dedicated to art and culture.

The story begins in 2020, at the end of the COVID crisis, when the city of Caen decided to highlight the rehabilitation of the Lorge district, and in particular the former stables, with the ambition of creating a cultural and artistic center. The town hall then called on the KinoCaen collective to highlight these transformations through the production of six short films.

From January 2021 to February 2024, the KinoCaen teams are following the evolution of this district with their filmmakers' eyes. A former military base, the Loge district is now dedicated to multiple forms of artistic expression, including the presence of the FRAC Normandie, Studio 24 and the Cité Théâtre. The management of the artistic project is entrusted to Amavada, a multidisciplinary cultural association which also plans to move into the former stables of Lorge.
These currently include a multi-purpose hall, a concert hall, a theater hall, a rehearsal stage and a bar/shop area. The place also offers art workshops and the provision of 8 studios for artists in residence.

The desire to leave an artistic testimony

KinoCaen was offered to make six short films in various styles (docu-fiction, comedy, historical film, etc.) with the Lorge district in common, it was thus a question of marking the occasion and offering an artistic testimony to the rehabilitation project of the district. Benjamin Hubert, General Coordinator of the project: "It's very positive to renovate this district, it will bring a new breath of life to the city," adds Sophie Lepionnier, a member of the collective and director of Making Lorge, a document retracing the production of the short films.

The screening of these six short films was therefore a unique opportunity to present to the Caen public the important changes that the Lorge district has been undergoing for a decade now, destining it to become the next cultural stronghold of the city.
